January 5: First Day Back at Work
Jan. 5th, 2026 09:53 pmShort note today because it’s late and I’m just getting the last absolutely essential things done before I sleep.
Today was my first day back at work. I’d say it went fine. There was a bit of a minor kerfluffle around an unstaffed circulation desk, but the unstaffed part was only about 10 minutes and also classes haven’t started so who cares. I did rub my hands together a bit at the prospect of public services drama that doesn’t involve me but probably nothing will come of it.
My morning was fairly chill and then when UPS and mail came I was inundated with stuff, as I expected. I wouldn’t say I’m overwhelmed–I mean, I know this routine and this schedule very well, I am inured. I just don’t want anything else on top of it. That’s what tends to trip me up every year, is the Something Else. There are also some logistical issues because I just have SO MUCH physical material around me, more than I’ve literally ever had, and that’s a problem. But a purely practical one.
After work, I came home and did about an hour’s worth of shit I had to do, like unpacking and getting a grocery list for tomorrow and then I went into zone out mode. Goodbye Monday zoning out! I’ll miss you, but it’s probably for the best. I tried really hard to tell myself: you did what you said you would do, and now you can do something else. I’m working on those Transition Times like that.
Tomorrow I have to go grocery shopping, Wednesday is my first class (!!), and Thursday I’ll probably do some more cleaning and stuff. So the rest of the week is basically set.
I feel like there is A Lot all around me but I am motivated to decrease that Muchness and I hope that motivation continues…indefinitely.
