September 14: A Few Reading Notes

Back home! My train was actually early on Friday night, and a little late tonight, but not too bad. I was still in my apartment a few minutes before nine. I slept a little bit around the middle of the trip but mostly I was awake and quietly reading my Forster lecture series book. Between Friday and today I think I read, like, 60 or 70 pages? And I have 30-something left. I’m suddenly very invested in finishing this, so I think I’ll prioritize reading it this week and hopefully finish in a few days/by Friday latest.

I am still enjoying the book but… I don’t know. I’ve been reading it for a long time–admittedly very intermittently. And the two chapters I was reading this trip, on Fantasy and Prophecy, were really hard. They were more… vibes based and less concrete, and I felt like I was reading and reading and not getting very much out of it. I started the last chapter/essay on Pattern and Rhythm and I feel a lot better about this one. I think it’s talking about stuff that I actually really care about a lot in reading novels; I think I’ll come out of it with some new vocabulary and new ideas. Also even if I skim through everything’s that left, even if I don’t get that much more out of the rest of it (again, unlikely), even if I didn’t get too much out of those last chapters, I think I’ve still gotten some good, general, like solid base ideas out of the book that made it worth reading. So even though I’m kinda obsessing about just finishing it at this point, I’m glad I picked it up.
