I’m probably not paying as much attention as I should but, nevertheless, more Expanse today.

Definitely the best storyline was the Chrisjen one and I’m glad that it was the A plot. I feel like there’s too little of her. I like that we’re seeing more of her husband this season too, and of their relationship. I know they were fighting and he was all ‘I don’t even know you anymore’ but I really liked her going off about her own PR people: “I should have had someone’s head on a spike,” “there I am with my tits out,” etc.

I’m assuming that the secret deep-cover source was Drummer and Ashford, given that they had that same Marco Inaros footage in the last episode. The last scene with the boarding of his ship was good. Intense. I mean obviously nothing could yet come of it but it had a degree of suspense and was a good cliffhanger ending.

The stuff on Illus is… interesting. The thing is I actually do have a big fondness for ‘everyone trapped in a disaster situation’ bottle-episode-situation type things. So I was sort of excited for this. But it was kind of meh by that standard. I could not find it anything but funny that the eye-infection thing that had been only very subtly hinted over the course of several episodes had suddenly infected everyone in both camps and was going to lead to blindness in twenty-four hours. Like—what? How can this storyline move from simmering backburner to everything on fire that fast? I can’t take that seriously, I’m sorry. I thought there would be other things going on in this trapped-in-darkness scenario, but either they didn’t have time to move things at a more reasonable pace (side-eyeing that because a lot of this season has been slow, as I’ve said before, but then again it’s also a few episodes shorter than previous seasons so maybe?) or they just don’t know what else to do but have it suddenly be emergency all the time emergency.

And then the slugs??! The slugs! What fresh hell is this? Is what I think many of the characters, including Holden, should be saying.

I still find Holden so annoying. The RCE scientist had it right when she told him to stop whining about everything and be appreciative of his weird alien ghost friend. Also Miller’s existence is such a good scapegoat for Holden and if I were anyone around him, I’d 100% fully believe he was lying to take blame off himself. He is the hands doing all the stuff Miller is said to be responsible for. You… didn’t have to just do whatever he said, though? He mopes around like no one’s ever suffered like he has and I, honestly, am quite simply not buying it.

And, the Rocinante stuff. I don’t know, do I think Alex and Lucia will have an affair? That’s the sort of story that would pique my interest more if I’m being quite honest, but probably not the direction this show would go. They’re being supportive friends, obviously. I still don’t find Lucia or her family interesting. I thought that the resolution of how to save the Barb being ‘really big rope, tow her away’ was very funny. That simple, huh? You can dress it up as if it’s not simple but like… that’s what it came down to, right?

This is such a weird season. I feel like I like it when I think about it in general but when I drill down in any way, I have complaints. Well, only a couple more episodes. I’m glad we’re moving along at a decent pace with this show and watching it on a regular basis.
