July 24: Note; Reading

Definitely up way too late, but all I wanted after work was to zone out. It was a long day, with a lot of brain power used. So will tomorrow be worse for me getting less sleep? Yes. I know that today was easier for me having had more. But it’s also Friday tomorrow and once I am done with work, I have a few lowkey/pleasant things to do and then, then I will go to sleep early. This weekend is supposed to be hot, so I will probably stay in and try to do apartment tasks and write. I really need to write. For the mental health.

I’m about 170 pages in to Quo Vadis and really enjoying it. I’ll need to take it home some weekend and read more at once because I do dislike having to put it away when lunch is over. It is such a yarn. I really like the style, too, though; it has a certain richness but also a clarity about it, especially when describing people and their personalities and moods. The characters are so Extra all the time (not just Nero), which gives it a certain timelessness, in a way. But also everyone who’s ever known a selfish, overgrown manchild knows Vinicius and everyone who’s ever been fond of a himbo knows Ursus, and so on. For a book that is so very serious about how important Christianity is, it’s also very funny. Nothing is funnier to me than the characters who expect imminent Christian miracles and then are like ‘wait, that’s it?’ Truly, lol.
